St. Maarten/ St. Martin is a 37 square mile island in the eastern Caribbean, part of the Windward Island chain. It is unique in the world by having its small dimensions shared by 2 countries; St. Maarten is Dutch and part of the Netherlands Antilles, and St. Martin is French and part of France. Both sides are totally integrated, with no borders and free movement and harmonious living between them.
St. Maarten is known as the Friendly Island, and for good reason. Its inhabitants, themselves a veritable United Nations of people, share a warmth and good nature that is extended hospitably to all guests. Unlike some Caribbean islands, you can wander and explore freely in St. Maarten/St. Martin without fear. The people are as warm as the average daily temperature of 80 degrees.
